Children’s rights in Côte d’Ivoire
Like many countries in Africa, Côte d’Ivoire lacks structures to help children assert their basic rights. A pilot project launched in late 2010 by the independent non-governmental organization Save the Children Deutschland e.V. with support from the Federal Foreign Office aims to remedy this. The project to spread the word about children’s rights in Côte d’Ivoire has supplied child-friendly materials for distribution in schools and towns to inform children about their rights. In the long term, the project aims to develop a system documenting violations of children’s rights.
It became clear even in the first project phase that there is a need for and interest in this information at all levels, and indeed some progress has already been made in raising awareness of the issue.

Owing to the conflicts and uncertain situation in Côte d’Ivoire, completing the project was extremely difficult and involved considerable risks for the project team. Unfortunately it is at present unclear whether the project will be taken any further.
