Directorate-General 2’s responsibilities cover the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP), Germany’s involvement in military operations, NATO and the OSCE, the Council of Europe and relations with the United States, Canada, Russia, Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, Turkey and the EFTA states – Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. more

Creating the right atmosphere and setting for political talks – on visits to Germany by foreign guests, on visits abroad by the Federal President, the Federal Chancellor or the Foreign Minister and at international conferences. more

Directorate-General for the United Nations and Global Issues

UN Security Council

Interdisciplinary tasks such as conflict prevention, peacekeeping, the fight against poverty, human rights protection, combating international terrorism and crime, as well as humanitarian aid abroad, are important elements of the Directorate-General’s work within the framework of, and in cooperation with, the United Nations. more

Directorate-General for Management

Foreign Office

Organization consultancy, personnel administration, basic and further training, training for international diplomats, budgetary and finance matters are among the main tasks of DG 1. Other vital support services are provided by the IT units, the Health Service, the Language Service, the Political Archives and the Library. more
