Pre-Durban conference on climate research and climate policies to be held at the Federal Foreign Office on 11 November

The Pre-Durban conference on climate research and climate policies will bring together leading climate researchers and decision-makers from the worlds of politics, diplomacy, business and civil society. The discussions will focus on the German and European strategies to mitigate climate change.

The German chief negotiator will talk about the position to be adopted by the EU at the forthcoming UN Climate Change Conference in Durban. A speaker from the Federal Foreign Office will explain the objectives and instruments of Germany’s climate diplomacy and international climate diplomacy, and will discuss these with conference participants: Ambassadors, members of the Bundestag, scientists, business leaders and NGO representatives.

The Conference is organized jointly by the Federal Foreign Office, the Federal Ministry for the Environment, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the Embassy of South Africa and the German Climate Consortium DKK. The event will be opened by the Director-General for Economic Affairs at the Federal Foreign Office. Representatives from the DKK and the Research Ministry, as well as the South African Ambassador, will also speak at the opening session. Some 220 participants are expected to attend.
