Political relations

Bilateral relations between Germany Luxembourg are close and trustful, whether at bilateral, European or multilateral level. Maintaining good neighbourly relations with Germany, France and Belgium is one of Luxembourg’s priorities. Luxembourg sees itself as the hub of the European SaarLorLux region with its thriving cultural and economic sectors, a region that also includes Trier/Western Palatinate and Belgian Wallonia. The principal areas of cross-border cooperation are regional planning, labour migration, civil defence, culture, tourism and transport.

Economic cooperation is steadily increasing in the European SaarLorLux region.

There are numerous projects underlining the close cultural relations and cooperation in the region will continue beyond 2007. There is a lively exchange in the areas of art, theatre, literature and music as well as in science and research. Luxembourg’s media regularly report on cultural events in Germany. With no language barrier to overcome, German television and the German print media have a large audience/readership in Luxembourg.
