Foreign Minister Steinmeier on the situation in eastern Ukraine

In an interview with the Bild-Zeitung newspaper on 12 August, Foreign Minister Steinmeier said:

The people in eastern Ukraine need help from outside because of the ongoing fighting and the serious problems with supplies. The fact that help is being provided to the people in great need is thus to be welcomed.

We expect everyone to adhere to agreements and to act transparently in this difficult and dangerous situation. Coordination by the International Red Cross and the United Nations will ensure that the urgently needed help will reach people quickly.

Germany has provided 3.5 million euros in humanitarian assistance to the people in eastern Ukraine so far.
