Foreign Minister Westerwelle: Federal Government to step up humanitarian aid for the Philippines by two million euros

After a meeting of the crisis unit at the Federal Foreign Office, Foreign Minister Westerwelle decided today to step up Germany’s emergency aid for people in need in the Philippines by a further two million euros. These funds will go to German and international aid organisations and enable them to immediately provide people in the areas ravaged by the typhoon with urgently needed supplies.

Foreign Minister Westerwelle issued the following statement on the matter today (16 November):

Germany wants to show its solidarity for people in the Philippines. I am particularly pleased that the Germans have demonstrated a great willingness to support them with donations.

The funds pledged today bring the Federal Government’s emergency humanitarian aid for the Philippines to 6.5 million euros.
