Federal Minister Westerwelle: Conclusions from the WikiLeaks publications for the Federal Foreign Office

The release of confidential documents by WikiLeaks raises important questions for the work of the Federal Foreign Office. The conclusions to be drawn concern content as well as formal and technical aspects.
Foreign Minister Westerwelle issued the following statement in Berlin today (5 December) on the practical consequences of the WikiLeaks releases for the Federal Foreign Office:

“We have drawn three conclusions in the Federal Foreign Office: Firstly, we will examine the documents released to see whether the security interests of our country or those of our Allies are affected. Secondly, we have asked our foreign missions once more to continue to report in an appropriately objective and analytical manner. Thirdly, we are looking at whether further steps need to be taken in the IT sphere to guarantee IT security.”
