Minister of State Gloser at the signing of the agreement on cooperation between EADS/Airbus and Turkish Aerospace Industries in Ankara

03.12.2008

Günter Gloser, Minister of State for Europe at the Federal Foreign Office, travels to Ankara today to represent the German Government at the signing ceremony for the agreement on cooperation between EADS/Airbus and Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI). The planned cooperation between the two companies centres around the production of aircraft components in Turkey for the Airbus A350. The project volume will amount to more than 300 million euro.

The Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan, EADS CEO Louis Gallois, as well as representatives of the French Government will also attend the signing.

Before his departure for Ankara, Minister of State Gloser issued the following statement in Berlin today (3 December):

"The true significance of this agreement goes far beyond the technical aspect. It will make Turkey one of the partners responsible for the continued success of Airbus production. In future, the new A350 family – in common with the successful A320 family – will no longer be designed, developed and produced exclusively at plants in Germany and France, but also here in Turkey.

Ambitious projects such as the Airbus family are not about making short-term profits. They help create viable structures for new challenges in the future."

The Turkish aerospace market is currently experiencing rapid development: for example, a tender process is currently underway for at least 25 long-haul aircraft, as well as at least 50 short and medium-haul aircraft worth a total of between six and seven billion euro. These machines are intended for the renewal of the Turkish Airlines fleet.
