The 19th session of the German-Polish Intergovernmental Commission for Regional and Cross-Border Cooperation begins today (19 November) at the Federal Foreign Office. Items on the agenda include an agreement on cooperation between the emergency medical services, which is being prepared at present, the future development of waterways in the border region, as well as the improvement of the rail links between Germany and Poland. The Commission will also draw up concrete recommendations on these and other issues for the German-Polish intergovernmental consultations in Warsaw on 9 December.

Commenting on this, Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier issued the following statement in Berlin today:

"Germany and Poland coordinate all key bilateral issues closely and in a spirit of trust. This is also evident in our cross-border cooperation. The German-Polish Intergovernmental Commission is making an important contribution towards the development of our joint projects in the border region."

Representatives of the Government and Länder, the Euroregions and selected associations are taking part in the two-day session of the Intergovernmental Commission. On the Polish side, the central government, the voivodships as well as regional and municipal associations are represented.
