EUSEC RD Congo

EUSEC RD Congo was established in June 2005 in response to a request from the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. As an advice and support mission, it contributes to the work of reforming the armed forces and thereby helps improve respect for human rights and democracy – particularly with regard to equal rights and the problem of child soldiers – as well as the rule of law and transparency.

In practice, the mission was at first charged primarily with developing a system to pay soldiers in such a way as to combat corruption in the armed forces; since it began operations, other duties pertaining to administration in the armed forces have been added to its remit.

There are regularly a number of Bundeswehr soldiers among the 50‑odd members of EUSEC RD Congo.
