EULEX Kosovo

The European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) was established in 2008. By means of mentoring, monitoring and advising (MMA), EULEX assists the Government of Kosovo in building rule of law structures in a multi‑ethnic country. It also performs certain duties in the sphere of policing and justice, making it the only EU mission to have executive powers of its own.

EULEX has more than 2100 members, around 1150 of them from EU countries and about 960 employed locally. On average, Germany contributes 140 federal and Land police officers as well as civilian experts.

The German diplomat Bernd Borchardt has headed the Mission since 1 February 2013.
