EU measures to protect children's rights
The European Union has been endeavouring for years through many different measures to promote and improve the protection of children’s rights, a topic regularly mentioned in the EU’s political and human rights dialogues with third states. In traditionally good cooperation with Latin American states, the EU regularly submits a resolution on children’s rights to the UN General Assembly and the UN Human Rights Council.

Protection of children in armed conflicts
On 12 July 2011, Resolution 1998 banning attacks on schools and hospitals was adopted in a session of the UN Security Council. During armed conflicts schools are often closed, occupied or used for other military purposes. Children are thus deprived of their future, though they are keen to learn and know that education will give them the chance of a better life. This is why schools must be a safe place where children can learn and play. more
